Reaching to Russia - Beyond the Mission

17 years ago today, somehow, Traci Dunn said “I do” to Rob Browne, who quickly responded with the same two words, and we started our life together as husband and wife.  For all but 3 or 4 July 1sts over the last 17 years, we’ve been here in Russia sometimes even living in separate buildings on this special day.  It’s nice to wake up in the same apartment this anniversary morning though and look into the eyes of my bride and say “Happy Anniversary Sweetheart.  We made it another year.”  Though the day and week ahead demand other things of us we do hope to reassign our anniversary to another day/weekend later this year and celebrate appropriately.

On a sad note and not directly connected to our Mission but definitely connected to our Family is the news we received last night about another tragic death of a friend on a motorcycle.  Benjamin and Nate’s first real baseball coach, Coach Kenny, was killed in Loganville, GA, on Friday morning in a motorcycle accident.  Kenny leaves behind a wonderful wife and 7 children ages 13 and younger.  Kenny and his oldest son and former teammate of Benjamin and Nate, Trevor, attended Benjamin’s Coming of Age Celebration this past April and spoke wonderfully sincere words of blessing and admonishment over our oldest son.  Breaking to the boys last night what had happened just a few hours earlier was really hard.  Even Anna remembered funny things Coach Kenny did with his eyes to make our kids laugh.  Benjamin, Nate, and Aidan loved Kenny and respected him as a father and a wonderful baseball coach too.  I did too.  It’s hard to be here when we really long to be there to see our friend Trevor and grieve with Marianne and her other kids.  As you think of it in the coming days please pray for the Hough family.  Nothing about life will be the same without Kenny there as husband, father, and provider.

Our next outreach for this summer in Novosibirsk begins tomorrow afternoon.  Please pray for Team Smyrna and our family as well as our Mentors of course as we begin this important work.

Whether we are celebrating another year of marriage, grieving the passing of a friend and mentor, or working with mentors to bless orphans, we sense your prayers and support for us and are sincerely thankful for them.

In Him,
Rob, Traci, Benjamin, Nate, Aidan and Anna
